Full Face: Essence Cosmetics

Saturday 12 August 2017

One of my favourite post series that I did on my old blog was Full Face posts, where I tried a full face of makeup from a particular brand, and so I definitely wanted to carry this on with my new blog. Essence has been one of my favourite high street makeup brands for years, and their Princess Lash mascara has remained a top three favourite since its release! So, next time you're strolling round Wilko, be sure to pop some Essence in your basket!
Starting with base and the Colour Correcting Liquid Concealer Anti-Redness (£2.50), which can be used on its own or underneath a regular concealer to give a light, cooling effect on the skin that specifically targets skin redness. It is super easy to apply, with a sponge doe-foot applicator, but to really blend it into the skin, I used the Essence Concealer Brush (£1.50). I love the soft peach colour with the striking aztec design, and the bristles are super soft, blending any liquid or cream concealer into the skin perfectly.
There are quite a variety of foundations, but as I am currently suffering with a more oily skin, I opted for the Instant Matt Make-Up (£4). I have the shade Sand 20, which is perfect for my light skin, and I was SO impressed with this foundation - it blends effortlessly into the skin, and gives a matt, yet healthy finish to the skin. It states that it lasts 18 hours, but I haven't yet worn it for 18 hours so I can't comment on that, but I loved how light it felt on my skin, and with its medium to high coverage, this was definitely the right foundation choice for me.

As it is supposedly Summer, I like to add a bit of warmth to my skin, so I tried out the Luminous Matt Bronzing Powder for Lighter Skin (£3). I always get excited when I see bronzers for lighter skin, because they can sometimes be hard to come by. This matt bronzer has a silky, shimmering core which helps to create a subtle, sunkissed look, without making you look like a TOWIE extra. Isn't this just so pretty?!
Essence prices are often unbelievable for the quality of product you are getting, but it still shocks me when I see products for £1! This is the Satin Touch Blush in Satin Love 20, which adds the most beautiful, glowing warmth to the skin, and is so pigmented, making it worth so much more than it's price tag. To apply my powders, I used the Powder Brush (£3), and again we have a pop of bright blue against that black and white aztec design. It feels like silk on the skin, and doesn't pull or tug at the skin, instead just giving a lovely even finish.
A product I have seen a lot of on social media is the Prismatic Rainbow Glow Highlighter (£3.50). Now I must admit I expected these quite bright shades to make me look a little like a clown, however they blend together to create the prettiest glow I ever did see! They can be used individually or swirled all together to create a custom blend, so don't be scared by those bright colours as you can create something pretty darn amazing here!
Moving onto the eyes, and as mentioned I am obsessed with my Princess Lash and even high end mascaras don't compete, however I was super excited to try the new Volume Stylist Curl & Hold Mascara (£3) as the packaging is so pretty! I was not disappointed! This curls, lengthens and separates my lashes, and I have really short, fair and fine lashes, so mascaras really have to kick butt to work well for me. I tried applying a base of the Princess False Lash Effect and then popping this on top and HELL YEAH we had a winner! Absolutely my current favourite combo!
For eyeshadow, I splashed out a whole £2 for their The Metals Eyeshadow in the shade Rose Razzle-Dazzle 06. These super shimmery metallic eyeshadows come in a range of stunning, on trend colours, allowing you to create a whole range of looks. I am obsessed with this soft, baby pink shade and if you use a makeup brush sprayed with setting spray, it really turns that metallic look up to high volume!
A concept new to me was the Sculpting Eye Pencil (£2.30), a double ended eyeliner with a darker shade to define and a lighter shade to highlight to give the appearance of bigger, brighter looking eyes. So you apply the black pencil for the lash line and for contouring the lid, and then the white pencil for highlighting the inner corners of the eye and the waterline. Genius!!!

Lastly, perfecting that pout! I wanted to try out both a lipstick and a gloss, so let's start with the lipstick. I tried out the Long Lasting Lipstick in Love Me 13 (£2.30), along with the Lipliner in Wish Me A Rose 12 (£1). I would recommend softening the lipliner by swatching it on your hand first, just to ensure its easier to apply on the lips, but I was so impressed with the pigment and durability of this liner, and it matches the lipstick perfectly. The Long Lasting Lipstick provided me with intense colour for a good few hours and didn't dry out my lips in the slightest, instead making them feel and look hydrated.
For Lipgloss, I chose the Shine Shine Shine Wet Look Lipgloss in 05 So Into It (£2). This is actually a much prettier, on-trend colour in real life, it didn't seem to show up true on camera, however it is a mauve nude shade and I adore it! The formula of these is just so unbelievably shiny and glossy, and it makes your lips look plumper than they naturally are, so gotta love that! As a lipgloss, I was impressed with the pigment, but they are never going to last as long as a lipstick, but I was still really happy with this. There are matt versions of these, which I would definitely be interested in trying.
So, it was definitely a big winner of a brand for me, which as a huge Essence fan for years, I didn't expect any difference. Whether you're a teen on a budget, someone who likes to experiment with makeup, or someone who enjoys new trends, Essence is definitely worth checking out. Find them instore and online at Wilko.

All the Loves,
Kathryn x

  7. If cosmetic products are not subject to pre-market approval, one must ask how effective the FD&C Act really is in protecting the consumer? It would appear the proverbial cow can leave the barn before the door is closed, that is, top halal makeup Brands the products can reach the market and be consumed without the consumer being aware of whether these presumably safe cosmetics products are, in fact, safe.
