Sugarpill x Little Twin Stars Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches

Friday 30 August 2019

Whilst browsing Beauty Bay a few weeks ago, they had a sale on and I noticed the Sugarpill x Little Twin Stars Eyeshadow Palette was on sale for half price and the colours looked stunning so I went ahead and ordered it. I haven't tried anything from Sugarpill before and I don't think I would have paid the full price of £32.00 for six shadows, but at £16.00 I was really quite happy with my purchase.
The Eyeshadow Palette comes in super cute packaging featuring the Little Twin Stars illustrations and there is a mirror set amongst clouds on the inside of the lid. As mentioned, there are six eyeshadows within the palette, with the majority being shimmer shades and just the one matte. Included in the palette are;
Cloud Maker - Pale blue foil
Star Ribbon - Turquoise matte
Twinkle, Twinkle - Golden foil
Dream Dust - Pale pink/champagne frost
Sky Candy - Pale salmon frost
Wish - Bronze foil
I think the colour that really stood out for me in this palette was Star Ribbon, as it isn't a shade you would find in that many palettes. However, Cloud Maker is also so stunning, and to be honest I can't really find a fault with any of the other shades, they are just gorgeous. You could easily use Dream Dust as a highlighter too, and if you have darker skin, then perhaps even Twinkle, Twinkle or Wish.
The shadows apply really well and blend into the skin without being powdery with plenty of pigment. After using this palette, I would definitely try out some other products from Sugarpill, they have an amazing range of lip products!

The Sugarpill x Little Twin Stars Eyeshadow Palette costs £16.00 and you can find it online at Beauty Bay here.

Mark Hill Straight Up! Hair Straighteners Review

Thursday 29 August 2019

Last month I went for a wander around my nearest shopping complex and popped into Boots to see what was new there, and at the back of the store they had a small clearance area and I noticed there was a pair of the Mark Hill Straight Up! Hair Straighteners on clearance for £10.00. Bargain, I thought, as I had just booked an appointment to go and have my hair done at the Mark Hill Salon in Kirk Ella and had been eyeing up his products in the salon. So obviously, it went straight in my basket.
However, once I got to the tills, the straighteners scanned at just £5 and I had £5 of Boots Advantage points on my card so basically they cost me £0! I was thrilled - it's the small things that make my day. These straighteners have obviously gone off sale due to new ones coming out as I can only find them on Amazon for £38.00, but that really doesn't bother me as the new ones are £85.00.
I have always used GHDs but my current pair I have had about six years and technology changes so much so quickly that I didn't want to shell out £100 or more on something I don't use on a daily, or even weekly basis anymore. So for £10, £5 or even free, I was more than happy with these. The straighteners themselves have a hot pink and black ombre effect and even feature a lock so that you can keep the straighteners closed which is great for travelling with.
The straighteners have an on/off switch so you can't control the heat but they reach 200 degrees celsius and so these heat up pretty quickly and straighten the hair perfectly. The plates are a similar size to my GHDs as I don't need the wider ones as I only have fine hair and they are ceramic coated, which helps to control frizz. When I glide them through my hair, there is nothing that my hair gets stuck on and as the plates are so smooth, there is no pulling or tugging either. Thanks Boots!
You can find the Mark Hill Straight Up! Hair Straighteners online at Amazon here or you can check out Mark's newer electrical products online here.

Dermacol Make-Up Cover Review

Wednesday 28 August 2019

If you come here often, you will know I love You Tuber Tati Westbrook and listening to her thoughts on makeup products as she is always super honest with her product reviews. One product which pops up quite a lot in her videos is the Dermacol Make-Up Cover, so you can bet your bottom dollar I ordered it.
Dermacol was launched in Prague in the 1960s and their first and most iconic product is the Make-Up Cover, a hyper-allergenic foundation which provides extreme coverage with a natural-looking finish. Dermacol Make-Up Cover contains 50% pigment, creates a satin matte appearance and can cover up acne, bruising, tattoos and skin imperfections. This product is often used by professional makeup artists  and can be used on the face or body.

There are 13 shades available, ranging from fair to deep, and I opted for 208, which is for fair skin as that is what I have, although it isn't the lightest shade, there is a 207 which is lighter. Tati tends to use this as a concealer when she has really bad dark under eye circles, and as this is something I suffer from, it was the deciding factor in buying it. The Dermacol Make-Up Cover comes in a cool textured gold tube which contains 30g of product.
The formula contains SPF30 which I love about it, and it is waterproof, making it great for holidays. As you may expect, it is quite a thick formula and I like to apply it using my Beauty Blender sponge as I find it applies not as thick. I do like to use a primer with this also as it can cling to my pores without one, but if you need coverage for whatever reason, this product has your back for sure. I have sensitive skin and I was a little wary as it does have a slight floral fragrance to it, but this did not irritate my skin whatsoever or make me break out.

If I was to wear this everyday as a foundation, then I would probably add a little moisturiser to dilute the pigmentation a little. The Dermacol Make-Up Cover costs £14.90 and you can find it online here.

Aussie Scent-Sational Protect Conditioning Mist Review

Tuesday 27 August 2019

I have had some really good beauty subscription box products lately and one of them was the Aussie Scent-Sational Protect Conditioning Mist. As a teenager I used to be obsessed with one of the Aussie Leave-In Conditioning Sprays and so I was excited to give this fairly new-release a go.
The Aussie Scent-Sational Protect Conditioning Mist is said to give 48 hour fragrance to the hair as well as leaving it feeling nourished and smooth, ridding the hair of any frizz. You get 95ml of product, and the bottle itself is a strong plastic rather than glass which isn't always great for travelling with. This is marketed as a touch-activated product, and Aussie state that you spray onto wet or dry hair, and each time that you touch your hair, the scent is supposed to come alive.

I like the fact that this sprays out quite evenly and finely without too much coming out at once and the scent is lovely and fresh, reminding me of the original I used many years ago. I have quite fine hair which is prone to frizziness and I noticed that once applied to my hair, there was no sticky residue left over which can sometimes occur with leave-in conditioning products.
I definitely wouldn't skip using a regular conditioner when washing my hair, but this is a lovely addition to my hair care routine, leaving my hair super soft and free of frizz with a delicious fruity scent. The Aussie Scent-Sational Protect Conditioning Mist costs £9.99, which isn't too bad as this is going to last you rather a long time, and if you keep an eye out at Boots, they often have offers on Aussie products.

You can find it online here.

Glamglow Glowsetter Makeup Setting Spray Review

Monday 26 August 2019

The Glamglow Glowsetter Makeup Setting Spray has been out a while now, at least a year, but I have only just gotten around to trying it out. I had quite a lot of MAC Fix Plus and Urban Decay All Nighter to get through and so when it was time to repurchase, I decided to try this one out.
I love Glamglow products, and I think that they make products which are completely different to a lot of others out there on the market. The packaging is always incredible and again, you can always spot their products on the shelves in a shop compared to others. The Glamglow Glowsetter Makeup Setting Spray contains mineral-rich charged waters, along with a caffeine infusion to wake up dull skin and provide an instant boost of radiance.

TEAOXI, a complex blend of green, white and red teas fights environmental aggressors and along with the other ingredients, leaves your skin feeling hydrated, soothed and smoothed, with a pretty glowy complexion. The Glowsetter comes in a bright pink see-through bottle, with a silver spray applicator and you can get it in a full size of 110ml, or a travel size of 28ml.
Glamglow state that this can be used on all skin types, and as I have combination with a touch of sensitivity, I have found that this works great on my skin. I like to spritz it about an arm's length away from my face, and one of the main things I love about this setting spray is that it doesn't spray out in clumps, it has a really lovely fine mist which dries into the skin instantly.

I had read in some places that there was a coconut scent to this spray, but I personally find it quite sweet and sugary, which is something I haven't had with a setting spray before, but which I also really enjoy. I like to use this before and after makeup application, and if I am having a no-makeup day, I also like to use it to keep my skin hydrated and glowy.

The Glamglow Glowsetter Makeup Setting Spray costs £24.00 for 110ml and £12.00 for 28ml and you can find it online at Glamglow here.

Village Leathers Chroma Leather Shoulder Bag Review

Sunday 25 August 2019

I love handbags. I remember my first ever handbag was a little Gucci pochette and I thought I was the bees knees at 17 walking around with it. Since then, I have learned to appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into creating beautiful leather handbags. I have quite the collection, and prefer to spend a little more on a quality, leather bag that will last rather than a 'fast fashion' piece.
Village Leathers are a brand which began in 1974, selling hand made belts, and now have a store in Covent Garden selling their wide range of belts, bags and much more, as well as of course, on line. Village Leathers create timeless pieces and styles, that are available in a wide multitude of colours and sizes.
For example, the Village Leathers Chroma Handmade Leather Shoulder Bag, is available in different sizes, as well as being sold in ten different colours - there really is something for everyone. I opted for Slate Grey, as I figured it would be great for all seasons, as it can be quite a neutral shade, but some of the brights and pastels are to die for.
The bag measures 19cm x 15cm x 5cm in depth and has an adjustable strap of 128cm-137cm. The bag has a silver-coloured twist-lock opening which makes it super easy to get in and out of, with a matching buckle for making easy adjustments to the handle of the bag. Branding is minimal, with Village Leathers in tiny silver print on the back of the handbag.
Even though this is quite a neat, petite bag, you can still fit plenty of things in there, and the tough quality leather, will be able to carry the weight of it too. I enjoy that you can use it as a shoulder bag but due to the adjustable strap, you can also make it into a cross-body bag, so you have a couple of options there too. Every stitch is perfect, with not one out of sync and so it goes to show their exemplary quality control.
The Chroma Bag retails for £44.00, which for such a quality, leather piece, I think is excellent value for money. Leather handbags like the Chroma are built to last a lifetime, and only get better with age. You can find them online at Village Leathers here.

Antipodes Delight & Joyful Hand & Body Creams Review

Saturday 24 August 2019

New Zealand skincare brand Antipodes have some of the most beautiful-looking products and their ingredients are second to none. The majority of their products do focus on the face, but their Hand & Body Cream is suitable for all over the body, for when you need a little added moisture. I was very kindly sent the Antipodes Hand & Body Cream in two different fragrances, Delight and Joyful, and here is what I thought.
The packaging is a little like a tube of toothpaste, except a lot classier. I love the tube idea as it makes it super easy to squeeze the product out of it instead of having to put fingers into a pot, which makes it ideal for sharing. Delight is the blue tube, which contains antioxidant vinanza grape, macadamia nut and bouquet of gardenia, and Joyful is the purple tube which contains pure avocado oil, wild blackcurrant berry and south pacific hibiscus bloom.
With it being both a hand and body cream, I was a little dubious that it may be too rich or greasy for my hands, but that was not the case and I found that it soaked into the skin really nicely and rather quickly. I really dislike standing around waiting for creams to dry, so this is ideal for me and there is no greasy residue left over, so you can dress straightaway. As it is a multi-use product, I think this would definitely make a great travelling companion as the tube isn't so huge and heavy that it would be uncomfortable to carry around.
Joyful is definitely the 'Summer' scent of the two, with its fruity and floral notes, reminding me of being on holiday, whereas Delight is slightly more floral and Spring-like. Due to the Hand & Body Cream being quite thick in texture, a little does go a long way and the 120ml tube is going to last you quite a while. I have been using this cream for over a week now and I can already see and feel a huge improvement - my skin feels softer, smoother and overall a lot healthier and hydrated. I do suffer from quite dry, flaky skin, but this has definitely managed to keep that at bay.

The Antipodes Delight & Joyful Hand & Body Cream cost £26.00 each and you can find them online at Antipodes here.

Fenty Beauty Baeside Vivid Liquid Eyeliner Trio Review + Swatches

Friday 23 August 2019

Now that Fenty Beauty is more readily available in the UK, mainly at Boots, which means free shipping rather than £5.00 shipping from Harvey Nichols, I have been slowly adding to my collection. I first saw the Fenty Beauty Baeside Vivid Liquid Eyeliner Trio a good few months back before they were released here in the UK and knew that I needed those bright shades.
The Fenty Beauty Baeside Vivid Liquid Eyeliner Trio includes, as suggested by the name, three liquid eyeliners, in beautiful summery shades. Baeside includes...
*Papaya Mama - A coral
*Lime Feva - A lime green
*Skinny Dip - A bright blue
They probably aren't to everyone's taste, but I really liked how different they are and how vivid they are, as sometimes it is nice to add a pop of colour along the lash line or water line, rather than choosing black all the time.

The liquid eyeliners comes in a bright holographic package, and each one has a bronze lid and a splash of colour on the tube. You get 3.8ml of product in each tube, which to me looks a similar size to the Urban Decay Heavy Metal glitter liners, and so you are going to get plenty of usage from these.

The only shade I was slightly disappointed in was Papaya Mama, as I did expect it to be a little brighter than it turned out to be, as I would have loved a bright coral, but this is more of a muted tone. However, it is still a pretty colour but not as popping as I imagined.
The brush applicator is lovely and fine so that you can get really close to the lashline, and they do take a few minutes to dry down, but once they are dry, they ain't budging! Fenty Beauty do have two other sets in this collection, including Baecae, which I also really want, which contains a light yellow, a bright pink and a white, and then Baewatch, which includes a kelly green, magenta and sky blue.

The Fenty Beauty Baeside Vivid Liquid Eyeliner Trio costs £27.00, which works out at £9.00 per liner, and you can find it online at Boots here.

Favourite Jeffree Star Cosmetics Lip Products August 2019

Thursday 22 August 2019

June saw the release of a brand new Jeffree Star Cosmetics product, The Gloss, and as I love his lip products so much, as they never let me down, I thought I would do a post featuring a few of his lip products which I have been reaching for a lot lately.
Starting with the Jeffree Star Velour Lip Scrub (£12.00), of which I am now growing quite the collection. I have this in Grape, and oh my goodness it transports me back to the first time I ever went to Orlando back in 1999 and was obsessed with everything grape flavoured as it wasn't, and still isn't really something we get over here in the UK. As soon as I take the lid off I just want to eat the whole damn thing. This isn't a new scent, but I have been waiting for it to come back into stock. I love the JSC Velour Lip Scrubs because they aren't harsh on the lips, but still manage to remove any dead skin cells and leave the lips lovely and smooth, ready for lipstick or gloss application.
My friend Brooklyn was recently wearing the Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick (£16.00) in the shade Prom Night, which is a vivid bright blue-toned pink shade. It is perfect for Summer and it looked so lovely and on-trend on Brooklyn that I just had to add it to my collection. I believe this is from the JSC Core collection and his liquid lipsticks are definitely one of the best on the market as they give amazing coverage from just one swipe, and last so long without having to keep re-applying. I have been loving pink eye makeup looks this Summer and so this is great for a statement look.
Onto the latest release, the Jeffree Star The Gloss (£19.00). This came out in June and there are so many gorgeous colours and finishes but when I went online to purchase a few, the majority of the ones I wanted were sold out. I did manage to get one I wanted though which is in the shade I'm The Boss, which is a coral shade but without any shimmer. I love coral as I think it really suits my skin tone, as I am quite fair to light skinned with blue eyes, and so coral works really well. This year Jeffree has certainly upped his packaging game, and The Gloss has a fancy gold and pink lid, much like the JSC concealer. The sponge applicator has a flat, slanted tip, which makes it easy to apply and the product leaves your lips super glossy without feeling sticky or clumpy. I cannot wait to add to my collection!
You can find Jeffree Star Cosmetics online in the UK at Beauty Bay here.

Dr PawPaw Everybody Hair & Body Products Review

Wednesday 21 August 2019

Regular readers of Kathryn's Loves may know how much I love multi-use products. We live in such a fast and crazy world that we don't always have time to take care of ourselves, and so with multi-use products, they are often faster to use, ensuring that we can look after ourselves. The Dr PawPaw Everybody Multipurpose Hair & Body Wash and Conditioner are the perfect products for times like these.
Made with natural PawPaw, Aloe Vera and Coconut Oil, these products will protect and nourish both the hair and body, and you can bet your bottom dollar that they smell absolutely divine. The Dr PawPaw Everybody Hair & Body Wash can be used on all hair types and helps to deeply cleanse the hair, even if you use a lot of styling product, replenishing the hair with natural goodness. The Everybody Wash also acts as a 2-in-1 product, so that you can use it all over the body, whilst in the shower or bath. As with the hair side of this product, the Wash is also suitable for all skin types and is allergen free so it can even be used on sensitive skin and for the whole family. To use, you simply squeeze out the right amount of product for yourself, lather into wet hair, concentrating on the roots and bottom ends of your hair as these areas are often the driest and whilst you are at it, lather over the body and rinse well to be left with soft and nourished hair and skin.
The Dr PawPaw Everybody Hair & Body Conditioner also contains those natural ingredients of PawPaw, Aloe Vera and Coconut Oil, which are contain excellent moisturising properties. This multi-purpose conditioner is great for conditioning the hair and moisturising the body at the same time, in a very similar way to the Wash. If you suffer from very dry or damaged hair, you can also leave the Conditioner in a little longer than you would normally, and use it as a conditioning treatment, and then of course on the body as an in-shower moisturiser. Both products leave the hair and body not only baby-soft, but also smelling incredible due to Dr PawPaw's signature Mango and Coconut fragrance, it is so fresh and fruity without being overpowering or affecting sensitive skin. I found that after using the Everybody Conditioner, that I no longer needed to apply moisturiser to my body afterwards as my skin was pleasantly supple and nourished.
As well as performing well and smelling divine, what is wonderful about Dr PawPaw products is that they are all natural, gluten-free, vegan and cruelty-free, so you can pamper with peace of mind. This duo is also great for travelling with due to them having two uses, which leaves you more space for shopping or makeup. Both products retail for £12.99 each and you can find them online at Dr PawPaw here.

CLEAN Reserve Avant Garden Collection: Galbanum & Rain Eau De Parfum Review

Tuesday 20 August 2019

Luxury perfumer CLEAN Reserve have recently released an enchanting new fragrance collection, the CLEAN Reserve Avant Garden Collection, which is available exclusively at Space NK. CLEAN Reserve are renowned for their simple and eco-conscious fragrances, often pushing boundaries of olfactive creations and green chemistry.
The CLEAN Reserve Avant Garden Collection is a more complex version of the brand's hero scents, taking the singular note structure from Reserve and merging it with a luxurious niche approach. The same sustainable ingredients from the Reserve collection have been morphed together, blending two unlikely notes to create a mystical, beautiful fragrance that I have never come across before. The new fragrances are...

*Galbanum & Rain - Fresh and woody with cedarwood, patchouli and vetiver
*Hemp & Ginger - Earthy with notes of cardamom
*Muguet & Skin - Warm and sophisticated with jasmine and patchouli
*Saguaro Blossom & Sand - Intriguing with notes of jasmine, lavender and rose
*Sweetbriar & Moss - Non-traditional floral scent with rose and lychee
*White Amber & Warm Cotton - A fresh twist on the classic 'Warm Cotton', with mandarin, bergamot and sandalwood
*Nude Santal & Heliotrope - Soft and comforting, with lemon, orange flower and vanilla
These really are very unique and individual fragrances, and when I was offered to try one out, I opted for the Galbanum & Rain as I tend to go for quite woody, fresh fragrances and so I thought this one would appeal to me most. The packaging is typically CLEAN Reserve, except this time with a twist, as it features gorgeous, exotic blooms around the front label, and the bottle has a teal green/blue tint to it, with a darker wooden lid.

Galbanum & Rain, as mentioned, is a fresh and woody fragrance which has been crafted with eco-conscious and sustainable notes of Galbanum, Sichuan Pepper, Clearwood, Cedarwood, Patchouli and Vetiver. If I was to take a walk in a rain-soaked exotic forest, then this is probably what I would expect it to smell like. At first, you can almost smell the rain, but then it settles down slightly to a warmer, woodier scent with a touch of exotic spice, which must be the Sichuan Pepper.
I think this is definitely a perfume which I would use more on a weekend or for special events, rather than everyday due to the intensity of it. However, as this is an eau de parfum, and not an eau de toilette, you only need one or two spritzes to last you throughout the day, as eau de parfums are more concentrated. The CLEAN Reserve Avant Garden Galbanum & Rain Eau De Parfum retails at £129.00 for 100ml and you can find it exclusively at Space NK here.

New Brand Alert! Cake Beauty Haircare

Monday 19 August 2019

There is a brand new haircare brand in town, namely Cake Beauty and I was fortunate enough to be sent a couple of their products to try out and share with you all. Cake Beauty is a Canadian brand, which was founded by Heather Reier, who started the brand in Kitchener, Ontario when she couldn't find beauty products that satisfied her need for girly indulgence and her want for natural ingredients.
Every product that Cake produce is conceptualised, tested and designed at the Head Office in Toronto. Their formulations are manufactured here in the UK as well as Canada. Cake do not buy any ingredients from suppliers that test on animals and they do not test their final formulations on animals either. The brand also will not sell their products in any environment that requires them to conduct animal testing, and so this is definitely a brand that cares and they are certified both cruelty free and vegan by PETA's Beauty Without Bunnies.

The first product I tried out from their brand is the Cake Beauty The Mane Manage'r (£8.99), which is a three-in-one leave-in conditioner. It has a triple-action formula and is to be used after you have washed your hair, as a leave-in moisturiser which can be used daily and works as a style refresher to give you softer, better looking hair. The Mane Manage'r contains a wealth of natural ingredients and can be used on damp or dry hair to detangle, hydrate and revive the hair as well as providing a little extra volume and body to the hair. As you may imagine, the formula has a real sweet, cakey, confectionery scent to it, which isn't overpowering and is really quite pleasant. You apply through a spray nozzle and each spritz gives quite a good amount and product, and I found that I only really needed a couple of sprays per application. I love that this doesn't leave my hair feeling sticky, and instead leaves it feeling super smooth, soft and manageable.
When the UK had that unbearable heat wave a month or so ago, I could not bare to wash, blowdry and style my hair. It was an absolute no-way-no-how moment. So I had taken to washing it and then applying a salt spray afterwards, which gave my hair masses of volume and texture, but left it feeling very dry. The Cake Beauty The Wave Maker (£8.99) is a sugar-infused spray to give the hair texture and soft waves without using sea salt, and so there is never any drying out of the hair - hurray for Cake! The Wave Maker is suitable for all hair types and adds soft textured waves to the hair by adding the sugar and just a tiny pinch of salt, and isn't the slightest bit sticky, which I did find with my regular sea salt spray. You simply spritz the product throughout the hair and then either blowdry it or leave it dry au natural, and the next morning, I didn't even have problems brushing it out, which was a definite plus for me as it saved me washing my hair more frequently than needed.
I think that the price points for this brand is exceptional, as you get 120ml of product in both of these items, and considering they contain all-natural, quality ingredients, that is worth more in my opinion. Cake Beauty is exclusively sold in the UK throughout Boots stores and online here.

Kathryn xxx

Perfecting Eyeliner With New CID Cosmetics

Sunday 18 August 2019

There are a huge range of black eyeliners on the beauty market, and yet sometimes we forget that eyeliner doesn't just have to be black. There are endless amounts of coloured eyeliners around, and the New CID Cosmetics i-gel Long Wear Gel Eye Liner Trios are just the ticket for trying out different colours.
The New CID Cosmetics i-gel Long Wear Gel Eye Liner Trios (£24.50 each) come in three different colourways, and each one has three shades of gel eyeliner within them, as well as handy little brush for perfecting your eyeliner look.
Here, I have two of the colour options, Bronze, Copper and Stone, and Emerald, Indigo and Midnight Blue. Each little compact comes complete with a mirror on the inside lid, and then three generously-sized gel eyeliner pans. The eyeliners are covered with a plastic lid to protect them too. As I mentioned, you do also get a brush with them, and I found the brush really easy to work with as it has a small, neat tip, but quite a long handle for a mini kit.
The texture of the i-gel eyeliners is silky soft, and the formula is waterproof and smudge-proof and I found that it lasted me throughout the day without working its way down my face. You can use them along the lash line, inside the waterline and even as an all-over shadow.
However, if a classic look still has your heart, then there is also the New CID Cosmetics i-flick Double Ended Liquid and Kohl Liner (£20.00). This sleek pearlised pen contains a waterproof black liquid eyeliner on one end, and a smooth black kohl pencil on the other end, so you are getting the best of both worlds.
The liquid liner end of the pen has a super-fine brush-style tip and the formula is also waterproof so you don't have to worry about it fading throughout the day. The kohl side of the pen is buttery soft, with a pointed tip that allows perfect application for either the lash line or waterline. I think this is definitely one of those handbag essential items, as you can go from daytime to night time in one swoop of liner.

You can find these fabulous products and more online at New CID Cosmetics here.
