Testing Out: IGK Hair Products

Saturday 16 March 2019

A hair-care brand which I have been seeing everywhere lately is IGK, and if you haven't heard of it yet, fear not, I am here to give you the low-down on four of their products. IGK is a fairly new brand, founded in 2016 by four innovative stylists who wanted to create products which could fit into and work for the busy lives of women, whatever they do. The brand was firstly noted for their dry shampoos, but their collection has quickly grown into sprays, creams and gels all with tongue-in-cheek product names and world-class formulas.
The first product I tried out was the IGK Hair Mixed Feelings Cooling Blonde Mixing Drops (£25.50 for 30ml). I have gradually been having more and more highlights to take me from brunette to blonde, and if like me, you are going from dark to light, this product is incredible for ensuring you don't have any discolouration, and for making your blonde the best possible version of itself. This is a leave-in treatment, which is purple in colour as well as in packaging in order to enhance the hair's natural shimmer and shine. These innovative drops are infused with prickly pear cactus extract which works to nourish the hair from root to tip to leave it looking and feeling softer and healthier. You only need to use between 1-4 drops depending on the depth and tone of colour required, and so this 30ml bottle is going to last you ages! All you need to do is mix the Mixed Feelings drops with your styling products or leave-in conditioner and apply to the hair. It is a super quick and easy addition to your hair-care routine but it is so effective and I now use this every time I wash my hair as it really has made such a positive effect on the tone of my hair.
One of the IGK Hair products which I have seen most across social media is the IGK First Class Charcoal Detox Dry Shampoo (£23.00 for 288ml). I do tend to use dry shampoo more than I should, but some mornings I much prefer an extra 40 minutes in bed to washing my hair, and so dry shampoos always have my back. The First Class Dry Shampoo smells really fresh and is a rich and nourishing dry shampoo which ensures your hair lasts longer between washes without the white residue powder which some dry shampoos leave behind. It has been formulated with charcoal powder to absorb oiliness and gently lift away dirt, oil, sweat and build-up without aggravating the hair or scalp, which is particularly useful during the colder months when our hair is not at its strongest. As with all dry shampoos, you simply give the can a good shake, and spritz the product into areas of oiliness and IGK even recommend applying before bedtime. Containing white tea powder and charcoal, First Class soothes and strengthens the hair whilst keeping it fresh and can be used on fine, medium or thick hair - I have fine hair and I noticed zero product build-up, which is something I rarely see with dry shampoo.
If you blow dry, straighten, curl, tong, crimp your hair, it is always worth using a heat-protection spray to avoid your hair going into a dry, damaged, frizzy mess. I try not to use heat on my hair too much, as my hair is quite fine and so damage can happen quite rapidly, but if I leave my hair to dry naturally, I end up with a lot of frizz, and so the IGK Hair Good Behaviour Spirulina Protein Smoothing Spray (£27.00 for 186ml) is the one! This is a keratin-like treatment in a can, offering 24-hour frizz control and protection against heat up to 450 degrees Fahrenheit and smells like dreamy, creamy cocoa. Good Behaviour was created to mimic the smooth, frizz-free results of a keratin treatment, without the need for expensive salon procedures that can sometimes actually damage the hair. Whilst your hair is damp, you spritz this beauty through it, using a comb to ensure even coverage and blow dry as normal. This will then keep your hair so much smoother-looking and I 100% see a difference with the level of frizz I once had. One of the things I love most about this brand is that every single product is so quick and easy to use, there is no mess, no waiting for things to dry, just fast treatments which work.
For those of you who REALLY suffer from frizzy hair, an excellent way to tame this is by using the IGK Hair Mistress Anti-Frizz Leave-In Conditioner (£25.00 for 145ml). Mistress is a non-sticky, clear hair balm which is so refreshing and hydrating on the hair. This has been formulated using coconut for its nourishing properties that work to add strength to the hair, deeply moisturising shea butter and fortifying argan oil, making it the dream product for dry hair. You only need to take a small amount of the balm and run it through towel-dried hair, and as it is a leave-in conditioner, you simply dry and style as normal. If you have crazy frizzy hair, this can be used on dry hair also, but as I have quite fine hair, this works best for me whilst my hair is wet and leaves my hair not only soft and nourished, but with no craziness going on. If you are needing extra hydration and definition, you can apply this to the ends of the hair, and if you have curly hair, this can help to define the curls by using it all over the hair.
All IGK Hair products are Vegan, Cruelty Free, Gluten Free, have UV protection, are Petroleum Free, Mineral Oil Free, Paraben Free and Sulfate Free. GO IGK! This is what a brand should be achieving in 2019, and it is so refreshing to see.

You can find IGK Hair in-store and online at Space NK.

All the Loves,
Kathryn xxx
