As someone who has fine, straight, short and fair eyelashes, I love trying out new mascaras to try and find one that will magically make my lashes look on the fake side. This hasn't happened so far, but considering the reality of my lashes, this is probably quite an ask. When Stila released a new mascara, the Stila Magnum XXX Mascara, you just know I had to try it out.
I had seen on You Tube that a few people were quite disappointed with this mascara, but as I always say, beauty works differently on everyone, and so I like to try things out for myself. The Stila Magnum XXX Mascara is a volume-building mascara based on the brush itself and the formula. The packaging is black and gold and looks rather classy, and it is quite a chunky tube of mascara.
The formula is creamy and non-clumping, both of which I agree with, and contains Curl Flex, a unique styling resin with curl retention and lash hold. As eyelash perms don't always work on my lashes they are that straight, I don't expect mascaras to curl them, and this one didn't either, but as I like to stress I have very straight lashes. A key ingredient which they promote is 1% Diamond Powder which is supposed to give dramatic black colour intensity, and yes, this mascara is very black, but so are most of the others on the market.
The applicator is a traditional bristle-style brush, which I often prefer and the hourglass-style shape of the wand reminds me of the new Too Faced Damn Girl Mascara. The brush is huge, and I did find that because I have hooded lids, I did get quite a lot of product on my lids when trying to work the brush through my lashes. It did take me two applications to get the desired look, and this mascara does have a luxe, rich, creamy formula to it, which doesn't flake or dry out the lashes.
Did I get my false lash effect finish? No, but as I mentioned earlier, that isn't realistic. My bottom lashes look gorgeous, and my top lashes do look great, however not dramatically different to how they look with other mascaras. I think if you have better natural lashes than I do, this could work wonders for you as even though the brush is large, it does coat and lift every single lash.
