Lockdown Beauty & Pamper Products

Friday 10 April 2020

I never ever thought I would be writing such a post - lockdown beauty and pamper products. But, here we are and we have to make light of the situation where possible as I think otherwise we will all go mad! I have included a few lovely skincare products, some body care, hand care, and even a few makeup items. I really hope you are all safe and taking care of yourselves and this little post helps to give you some ideas for self-care.
Starting with skincare, which is something I am really passionate about as if you don't look after your skin, your makeup is never going to look the best it can. I have been trying the Katherine Daniels Essential Refreshing Cleansing Gel (£23.00 for 200ml). I like that this has a pump-down applicator which makes it quick and easy to use. This is a concentrated gel facial wash that leaves the skin feeling clean, refreshed and not at all shiny or greasy. If you have sensitive skin, the aloe vera is going to help soothe the skin and help with any inflammation. Another key ingredient is Soap Bark Extract which helps to mattify the skin, which is great if you have oilier skin and works really well at cleansing the skin for a clean and clear base. There is a lovely fresh scent to it, without being overpowering and a little goes a long way as it foams up really well. You can find it online at Katherine Daniels here.
I love a good face mask, whether it be a liquid one or a sheet mask, as I find they help to relax me as well as, of course, helping to look after and improve my skin. The Jane Scrivner Masquerade Intense De-Stress Face Masque (£29.00 for 100ml) has been formulated to soothe, decongest, repair, refresh and revitalise dull and tired skin - and I am sure we could all do with a little of this at the moment. It comes in a rose gold and white bottle which has a push-down applicator, and the formula is a velvety soft, rich cream which has a lovely light fragrance to it. You only need to leave the mask on for around 15 minutes and then remove with cool water to reveal smoother, radiant and nourished skin. The Masquerade Mask contains Omegas 6 and 9 which help to regenerate skin cells and repair damaged skin tissue along with witch hazel to tone and tighten pores and I have definitely noticed a difference with my pores as normally I suffer from quite enlarged pores which I am a little self-conscious of. You can find the mask online at Jane Scrivner here.
We have all been washing our hands a lot more than ever before and the Eco Warrior Moisturising Hand & Body Bar (£4.50 for 100g) is a great option as it can of course, be used on both the hands and body, saving you from having to use shower gel. There are plenty of fragrances to choose from but as a lover of anything coconut scented, I opted for the Coconut Blend which smells incredibly fresh and creamy. This nourishing bar is made from pure essential oils including vanilla and is perfect for all skin types, so the whole family can use it. The Eco Warrior Bars are made with the finest natural ingredients and are free from detergents, SLS, sulphates, alcohol, parabens, sorbates, silicones and synthetic preservatives, making it a great option for even the most delicate of skins. It gives a gorgeous creamy lather which helps to moisturise the skin and keep you squeaky clean. You can find it online at the Little Soap Company here.
Now, because we have all been washing our hands a lot more, I don't know about you, but my hands are so dry and sore from using hand soap as well as anti-bacterial hand gel so much. Therefore, a hand cream is a must and I highly recommend the MOR Hand Cream (£12.00 for 100ml). There are lots of different scents to choose from and here I have Cyclamen Tuberose, which to me is just perfect as I love Tuberose scented products - it is quite a masculine scent on its own, but the cyclamen freshens it up slightly. However, I am obsessed with the scent alone! The MOR Hand Creams come in vintage-style tubes and the cream itself contains a rich combination of Argan Oil and Shea Butter to deeply moisturise the skin, Chamomile to soothe chapped and sore skin and antioxidant-rich Pomegranate to provide anti-ageing properties. As soon as you apply this hand cream, it softens and smooths the hands and I have found that I haven't needed to reapply as often as with some other hand creams as this one keeps my hands well-nourished throughout the day. You can find it online at Waitrose here.
Moving on to more body care, we have the Sun Believable Body Exfoliator (£8.50 for 100ml) and Body Moisturiser (£9.00 for 100ml). The Sun Believable Body Exfoliator contains natural walnut shell and Ecuadorian Ivory Palm seed to gently polish the skin, to remove any dead skin cells so that the skin is left lovely and smooth. This is a salt-free scrub, therefore it is perfect for all skin types and contains a blend of Sicilian Lemon and Lime essential oils so it smells lovely and fresh and reminds me of Summer, which is definitely a nice thought at the moment. The Sun Believable Body Moisturiser prepares and protects the skin, and when using both together, they make the skin super soft and smooth ready for fake tan application. The Body Moisturiser contains Organic Coconut Oil which softens the skin, preventing skin dryness and flaking, and has really helped my dry, irritated skin, especially on my legs. Another key ingredient is Vitamin E, which helps to reduce the skin ageing process and saturates the skin with moisture to keep the skin comfortable and well-nourished. This too has that delicious citrus fragrance to it, and I am definitely going to be Summer ready! You can find them both online at Leighton Denny Boutique here.
I haven't been wearing makeup every day since we have been in lockdown, but when I have I have preferred to use more natural products, as I figure I may as well look after my skin the best I can whilst I am at home. I start by applying the English Mineral Makeup Company Perfect Prep Skin Radiance Base (£29.00 for 10ml), a serum that actively moisturises for a glowy complexion. It is suitable for all skin types and gives you a soft, smooth base for makeup application. It comes in a little glass bottle complete with dropper so that you can apply straight onto the skin and then massage in. The Perfect Prep contains Olive Squalene which helps to accelerate new cell growth and is often known as a face-lift in a bottle, softening the skin, improving elasticity, reducing signs of ageing and boosting cell regeneration. I find that my makeup sits on my skin much better after using this and sometimes I just use this even when I aren't wearing makeup as I love how it makes my skin feel. You can find it online at The English Mineral Makeup Company here.
Keeping with the natural makeup theme, we have the English Mineral Makeup Company Blusher in the shade Rose (£25.00). This is one of eight shades available and is a natural shade to give your cheeks a hint of colour. The Blusher is a loose formula and comes neatly packaged in a compact, complete with mirror on the inside of the lid and a square blending sponge. I prefer to use a brush, but it is good that the sponge is there as it keeps the product from escaping. There are different finishes within the different shades, and the Rose colour has a pretty satin finish, so it adds a delicate hint of glow without being a shimmery product and without looking flat on the skin. I find the Blusher to be very highly pigmented and due to it being a loose mineral product, a little goes a long way! You can find it online at The English Mineral Makeup Company here.
Something I think is super handy and such a great idea is the English Mineral Makeup Company 4-in-1 Kabuki Brush (£22.00). This is absolutely perfect for travelling with, and comes in a floral and rose gold casing. On one end, you have a good-sized kabuki brush and then on the other, you have three eye and lip brushes. The smaller brushes come away from the packaging so you can use them individually, and the kabuki brush stays put. The packaging also slides up and down so that you can cover the larger brush whilst replacing the lid so that it keeps all of the brushes in great condition. The bristles are dreamily soft and feel so gorgeous on the skin, which I think is super important, especially for eye and lip brushes as you don't want to be tugging on those delicate areas. All in all, this really is such a handy item to have in your collection. You can find it online at The English Mineral Makeup Company here.
When I am in need of some cheering up (and yes, I know there are so many people out there in a much worse position than I am, but we are only human and this has been pretty hard for everyone), a bright lip colour can brighten my mood no end. The Leighton Denny Lip Dual (£12.50) contains a sheer lip stain on one end and a long-lasting lipstick on the other, both in complementing tones. Here we have the colour combination Ravishing Red, and this is the ultimate classic red with a matte finish, and it is more of a blue-toned red, so it isn't going to make your teeth look yellow. Even though the lipstick end has a matte finish, the formula is not at all drying and along with the stain, they both last a really long amount of time - the stain in particular. So you can apply these in the morning - either individually or both together, and you are still going to have amazing looking lips right through to the afternoon. There are many shades to choose from and you can find them online at Leighton Denny here.
Stay Home, Stay Safe and Lots of Love,
Kathryn xxx
